3 Ways to Add Extra Magic to a Disney Cruise

Disney Cruise

There is so much fun to be had on Disney Cruise Lines.  But there are some extra things you can do to make the trip even more magical for your family!  Here are some trips to have the best Disney Cruise ever!

1. Join a Facebook Cruise Group for a Disney Cruise

Facebook Cruise Group for our cruise

This is such a fun way to build excitement for the cruise, meet other cruisers and this is the place to join Fish Extender or Pin Trading groups! On Facebook search the full name of the boat you are sailing on, such as the “Disney Dream,” and then add the date.  We were on the Disney Dream February 8-11, 2019.  Typically, a group will pop up!  These groups are also a great place to learn more about cruising from past cruisers and ask any questions you might have!

2. Fish Extender on Disney Cruise

Our Fish Extender!

The Fish Extender was one of the most magical parts of our trip!  Kids and adults alike will love it!  It does take some preparation and organization the front end.  The Fish Extender exchange is when families swap surprises with one another during the voyage.  A Fish Extender is anything with pockets that can be hung from the fish hook outside of your doorway.  You can make your own or buy one from Etsy and each pocket should have a name of a person in your cabin.  In your Facebook page you can join a Fish Extender group and you will have the opportunity to list what your family likes, favorite Disney characters and even if there are food allergies in the room.  You will prepare gifts for the other families in your group and have them ready for the cruise.  During the cruise your family can spend some time delivering the gifts to each room in the group!  It was so much fun to come back for an activity on the boat and find goodies waiting on us!  These do not have to be expensive or involved gifts.  We got everything from koozies, to travel goodies, to tote bags to adult beverages! Here is a more involved post by Jessica at Young at Heart Mommy about Fish Extenders if you want to learn more!

3. Pin Trading on Disney Cruise

Pin Trading on Disney Cruise
Pin trading in action!

Pin Trading is a fun way to find the perfect souvenir!  You can pin trade in the parks, and you can pin trade, 2 different ways, on the boat.  The first way is to put a pin board outside of your room with pins on it.  This way people can walk by and take a pin they like and leave a pin for you.  The second way is by participating in scheduled pin trading times.  These are times that cruise staff and cruisers can get together and trade pins.  Don’t have pins?  That’s ok!  Starter packs are sold on the boat.  Once you start trading you will not be able to stop!  I promise!

All three of these extra things will add so much Pixie Dust to your trip!  I highly recommend you try them and see how much fun it can be! Have you done a Fish Extender or Pin Trading on a Disney ship?  I would love to hear how much you enjoyed it!
